Games in Dunedin and Wellington have been abandoned to spoil the third round of domestic one-day cricket.

Persistent rain meant the game between winless Otago and fourth-placed Canterbury at University Oval was called off at about midday.

Two hours later the match between Wellington and Auckland was called off, depriving spectators at the Basin Reserve of a match between the competition's two unbeaten teams.

Northern Districts and Central Districts were the only teams fighting for points after play began on time in Hamilton.

The home side posted 266-6 at Seddon Park in an innings featuring three run-outs.

Daryl Mitchell top-scored with 93 not out after Nick Kelly had scored 57.
