Two people have been taken to hospital after a fire that gutted a two-storey house in Dunedin.

Emergency services were called to the Carroll Street property shortly before midday on Sunday.

The fire is out and two people have been taken to hospital for treatment for non-fire-related injuries, a Fire Service spokesman said.

He said the property has sustained major damage.

An investigation will be undertaken to determine the cause of the fire.
