NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 16/06/2016

Two people have been taken to hospital following a large house fire in Lower Hutt.

The blaze in a two-storey house in Major Drive, the main road through Kelson, started early on Friday morning and took firefighters about 90 minutes to suppress.

Two people, at least one of them suffering from smoke inhalation, were taken to hospital, Fire Service central communications manager Mike Wanoa says.

The house was well ablaze when firefighters arrived and had suffered significant damage, he said.

Fire investigators will inspect the scene on Friday to determine the cause.
