A man with stab wounds is in a serious but stable condition in hospital as police investigate two serious assaults in Hutt Valley.

The man, 42, was stabbed at an Oxford Terrace property in Avalon around 7.30pm on Monday.

He was admitted to Wellington Hospital after what police say was thought to be an argument.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested and appeared in the Hutt Valley District Court on Tuesday.

Police say they are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter but are seeking witnesses.

In an unrelated incident, a 36-year-old man was seriously assaulted at an address on Delaney Drive, Stokes Valley.

He was admitted to Wellington Hospital with serious head injuries and remains in a serious condition.

Police are seeking a white vehicle that was seen leaving the area around the time of the assault.

They say it appears the offender was known to the victim.
