Two indecent assaults in Royal Oak

Police believe two indecent assaults in the Auckland suburb of Royal Oak are linked.

Both incidents took place about 500 metres apart on women out jogging on Tuesday evening.

The first occurred at about 7.30pm on Acorn Street, when the victim was approached by a slim man in his teens or early 20s.

The second incident took place a short time later less than 500m away on Mt Smart Road.

Neither of the victims were injured, but Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Armstrong says both of the women were left shaken from being indecently assaulted.

"We're very concerned at the brazen nature of these attacks," he said.

"People are entitled to feel safe in their neighbourhoods."

Det Snr Sgt Armstrong said police patrols have increased in the area, but if running at night he said people should do it in pairs, carry a mobile phone, and try to stick to well-lit areas.
