Two men arrested over Auckland CBD brawl

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 14/04/2016

Two men have been charged over an Auckland brawl that sparked calls for changes to the city's liquor laws.

Two people ended up in hospital after a number of fights broke out in the Auckland CBD during the early hours of a weekend in March.

The fighting prompted police to announce they were appealing Auckland Council's alcohol licensing hours in the central city.

Two people were initially arrested shortly after the attacks, but following an influx of social media and video evidence, police have charged a 22-year-old man with fighting in public and a 25-year-old with assault.

Both men have appeared in Auckland District Court and expected back later in the month.

Police at the time said the alcohol-fuelled bravado was "utterly appalling", based on a large amount of footage that was given to them by the public.
