Two men stabbed with screwdriver

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 24/04/2016

A man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed two men with a screwdriver in Christchurch.

The dispute began when the 38-year-old went to a New Brighton house armed with the screwdriver on Sunday night to confront a man who is believed to have been sleeping with his former partner.

He then stabbed him around 20 times in the face, neck and arms with the weapon.

A flatmate intervened and stopped the attack before driving the man away from the property but he too was stabbed around 10 times in the shoulder, prompting him to deliberately crash his car to escape.

He ran down the street where he was picked up by a former policeman and taken to a local station.

Both victims were treated at Christchurch Hospital, with one still undergoing scans.

Police arrested the man accused of stabbing the pair later on Sunday and charged him with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm as well as unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

He will appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday.
