An extra Auckland and Dunedin show has been added to the Ed Sheeran tour after tickets sold out just minutes after being pre-released.

An extra Auckland show was announced on Tuesday, and on Wednesday afternoon it was revealed he'd play another one in Auckland and Dunedin.

Pre-sale tickets were released for his March 24 Auckland concert at 1pm on Tuesday but were snapped up quickly, with dozens posting on the Frontier Touring page that they'd missed out.

A second Auckland show was added to his tour for March 25 next year.

Tickets for the Dunedin show also sold out, and accommodation had already been booked out last week, according to reports.

General sales begin on May 23 at 1pm for Auckland shows and 2pm for Dunedin.

He's now set to play at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on March 24, 25 and 26 next year, and Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium on March 29 and 31.

This New Zealand leg will conclude the international tour of his latest album, Divide, which was released in early March and debuted top of the charts around most of the world.
