Two people safe after boat flips

Two people have been rescued after their boat flipped while crossing the Whangapoua Harbour bar, on Coromandel Peninsula.

Police were called by a person on the beach who saw it happen just before 11am on Saturday, a police spokeswoman says.

The two people were out of the water quickly so there was no need to launch a search, though the process was under way.

Eight people died when the fishing charter boat Francie capsized while crossing the bar at Kaipara Harbour in November and earlier this month five people were rescued when their boat got stuck on the sandbar at the Manawatu River mouth.
