A GLANCE AT BRITAIN'S TERROR ATTACKS OVER THE YEARS:

* May 22, 2017: Suicide bomb blast at the Manchester Arena music venue in northern England, after a concert by US pop singer Ariana Grande, kills at least 22 people and wounds 59 others

* March 22, 2017: A man drives his car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in central London and stabs a policeman to death outside parliament. Four pedestrians die of their injuries and the attacker is shot dead

*June 16, 2016: Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered by right-wing extremist Thomas Mair outside her constituency office in Batley, west Yorkshire. Mair was later handed a whole-life prison sentence for her murder

* December 5, 2015: An Islamic State-inspired taxi driver tried to behead a passenger in the east London Underground station of Leytonstone. Somali-born Muhiddin Mire was sent to a high-security mental hospital to serve a life sentence

* May 22, 2013: A 25-year-old serviceman, Fusilier Lee Rigby, was walking near his barracks in Woolwich when he was murdered by Islamic extremists Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale. The pair rammed him with his car before attempting to hack off his head with knives. They were jailed for life at the Old Bailey in February 2014

* June 30, 2007: Two men inspired by Islamist extremism ram a 4x4 laden with petrol and propane tanks into the main terminal of Glasgow Airport. One of the attackers died in the incident and five people were injured

* July 7, 2005: Four suicide bombers kill 52 and injure hundreds in blasts on the London Underground network and a bus. Three of the bombers were British-born, all of Pakistani descent; the other emigrated from Jamaica.
