Unions withdraw airport security strike

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 13/07/2016

Planned strike action by aviation security workers has been called off after unions and employers reached a provisional agreement.

The Public Service Association and E Tu union and the Aviation Security Service reached the deal after all-day mediation.

The deal will need to be ratified by workers but both unions are recommending they accept it.

The unions have withdrawn strike notices and their injunction proceedings and a lockout notice issued by Avsec has been rescinded.

The unions had planned major industrial action at Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch airports later this month and Avsec retaliated with lockout notices for employees belonging to the two unions from July 20-27.
