Police investigating the murder of a woman in her Upper Hutt home this month are describing her killing as an "execution".

Lois Tolley, 30, was found dead in her home on Ward Street, Trentham, early on December 10.

Police revealed on Wednesday she had been shot at point blank range and also stabbed.

"This is an execution-type killing," Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Barnett said.

Police are hunting for four men in their 20s who were seen arriving at the house before the attack and seen jogging away shortly after.

He said they were following good leads in the case but urged those involved in the killing, who may not have been the main players, to come forward.

Det Snr Sgt Barnett said they remained confident of finding those responsible and were looking for a gun and knife used in the attack.

Police say the attackers were known to Ms Tolley.
