Van gutted by fire on Wanaka lakefront

Fire has burnt out a van on Wanaka's lakefront.

Emergency services were called to the van on a reserve on the lakefront about 9.30am on Friday, a Fire Service spokesman says.

The fire is out and no one was injured.

The spokesman didn't want to comment on the cause but there is speculation the van's occupants were cooking with gas before the fire started.

On Tuesday evening cars, caravans and tents were destroyed after a hedge fire got out of control at Leithfield Beach Motor Camp.

A fire investigator had established the fire started in a hedgerow between camp sites but it was not deemed to be suspicious.
