The former Disney star first announced the news of her father's death the day she was set to star in Fox's "Grease: Live" as Rizzo. She surprised everyone with the performance of a lifetime in the midst of what one could only assume was an incredibly painful day.

"I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers," she wrote to her almost 6 million followers. “Tonight, I do the show in his honor.”

Hudgens has continued to bravely open up about her grieving process, posting an old photo of father and daughter last week, as well as a picture of his final resting place and a heartbreaking Instagram stating, "I wish heaven had visiting hours."

Rest in peace daddy❤️

Despite the tumult in her personal life, however, the "High School Musical" star is experiencing a sort of career renaissance. After a stint on Broadway starring in "Gigi," the actress' "Grease: Live" performance received immense critical acclaim, and she's now been tapped to headline a new pilot on NBC, titled "Powerless."

Set in the DC Comics universe, the half-hour workplace comedy chooses to focus on non-supes, who toil away at one of the worst insurance companies in the country. Hudgens plays the lead, Emily Locke, an insurance claims adjuster, who must deal with the reality of superheroes and villains ruining pretty much everything all the time.

Sounds right up our alley. We'll be watching, Vanessa.
