Venus in unfinished marathon at Wimbledon

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 4/07/2016

New Zealander Michael Venus and Croatian partner Mate Pavic are involved in a marathon five-set Wimbledon men's doubles clash that has been interrupted by bad light.

The 16th seeds fought back from two sets down to be tied with Scotland's Jamie Murray and Brazilian Bruno Soares, the No.3 seeds, after four hours and 51 minutes on court.

They will resume the third-round encounter on Wednesday morning (NZT) with the score at 3-6 6-7 6-4 6-4 13-13.

Venus and Pavic have won five doubles titles as a combination, four of them this year.

If they beat Murray and Soares and make the quarter-finals, they will go one better than their achievement at the grass court grand slam tournament last year.

Earlier, New Zealander Artem Sitak and German partner Laura Siegemund lost their second-round mixed doubles on the show No.1 Court.

Sitak and Siegemund were beaten 6-4 6-4 by the No.16 seeds, India's Leander Paes and former Wimbledon singles champion Martina Hingis of Switzerland.
