Leading New Zealand doubles player Michael Venus has missed out on the chance to claim his fifth title of the year after losing in the final at the Stockholm Open.

Venus and his Croatian partner Mate Pavic, playing in their eighth final of 2016, were beaten 6-1 6-1 by Swedish brothers Elias and Mikael Ymer.

The local combination, wildcards for the event, downed the tournament's fourth seeds in just 51 minutes.

Venus and Pavic, who share $NZ24,500 for reaching the final, had beaten top-seeded Brazilian pair Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares 6-2 6-4 in the semi-finals.

Venus will combine with Sweden's Robert Lindstedt for his final ATP tournament of the year this week at the Swiss Indoors event in Basel.
