Villarreal have beaten Eibar 2-1 in the Spanish top flight.

Villarreal have taken another step towards securing a fourth-place finish in La Liga with a 2-1 comeback win at midtable Eibar.

Ander Capa's goal Eibar an early lead only for Villarreal to quickly turn the game on its head with goals from international strikers Adrian and Roberto Soldado.

"We knew that we were going to have a hard time of it in Eibar, and we certainly did," Soldado said.

"They have a very small stadium and the fans are right on top of you."

Efficient Villarreal have 57 points from 31 games, which is eight more than fifth-placed Celta Vigo and nine more than Athletic Bilbao, who were held 1-1 by lowly Granada.

Inigo Lekue gave Bilbao the lead on the half hour, veteran striker Aritz Aduriz missed a penalty for the hosts, and Adalberto Penaranda levelled for Granada 13 minutes from time.

"We were far too generous in front of goal. We should have clinched the win by halftime, to be honest," Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde said.

Granada are fourth bottom, one point above Getafe, two above Sporting Gijon and five above bottom team Levante.

Villarreal's situation was helped by number seventh-placed Sevilla's loss 2-1 at home to Real Sociedad, who are now 10th.

Sevilla would have moved up to fifth, six points below Villarreal, by beating Sociedad.

Espanyol earned a useful 1-1 draw at Malaga, a result which keeps them well above the Spanish league relegation zone.

The draw left Espanyol in 13th place, eight points clear of the danger zone, and continued their revival under new coach Constantin Galca.

Malaga sit in eighth place and eight points shy of a Europa League berth.
