Twelve people have been arrested in a police operation targeting methamphetamine and cannabis supply in Wairoa and Gisborne.

Police say the 10-month operation ended on Tuesday with search warrants executed at six properties.

Those arrested, who are both male and female and aged 20 to 60, are due to appear in Gisborne District Court on Wednesday to face a combined total of more than 100 charges.

They included possession for supply of methamphetamine and cannabis, supplying methamphetamine and cannabis, and selling and manufacturing cannabis oil.

Police say they also seized a sum of cash and cannabis from the addresses.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford says illicit drugs cause considerable harm and is a driver of other crimes, including burglary and assaults.

"The disruption of this supply chain will make a difference to the Wairoa and Gisborne communities," he said.

"We encourage them to continue to work with us to further prevent the social cost of methamphetamine and cannabis."
