Walsh chasing one final heave in Zagreb

Kiwi shot putter Tom Walsh will seek one last explosive display in Europe to put the icing on a breakthrough international season.

Walsh lines up at the IAAF World Challenge in Zagreb on Tuesday morning (NZT) in a full-strength field, hoping to continue his outstanding form since winning bronze at the Rio Olympics.

Successive wins over American Olympic champion Ryan Crouser included last week's triumph at the Diamond League finale in Zurich, when Walsh smashed his own Oceania record with a 22.20m heave.

The 24-year-old couldn't repeat the dose a day later in Germany, finishing second with a best of 21.18m, but will hope a three-day break can fire the engine one last time before returning to New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Valerie Adams is set to match Walsh by winning the women's Diamond League points race in the final meet in Brussels on Friday morning (NZT).

Double Olympic champion Adams, who claimed silver in Rio, is an unassailable 21 points clear of American Tia Brooks, having won four Diamond League titles already this year.
