Warriors draw Eels in NRL Nines pool

The Warriors during a training session © Getty The Warriors during a training session This year's finalists the Parramatta Eels and New Zealand Warriors have been drawn in the same pool for the 2017 NRL Nines tournament in Auckland.

The Eels won this year's third edition of the tournament, beating the Warriors 22-4 in the decider, but were later stripped of the title in the fallout of their salary cap indiscretions.

The other teams in their pool following the draw on Thursday are the St George Illawarra Dragons and Manly Sea Eagles.

The only two Nines champions share the same pool.

Inaugural winners North Queensland are in the same group as 2015 champions South Sydney.

The tournament is on the weekend of February 4-5.


Waiheke pool: Cronulla Sharks, Gold Coast Titans, Penrith Panthers, Canterbury Bulldogs.

Rangitoto pool: Newcastle Knights, Wests Tigers, Brisbane Broncos, Melbourne Storm.

Hunua pool: North Queensland Cowboys, Sydney Roosters, Canberra Raiders, South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Piha pool: St George-Illawarra Dragons, Parramatta Eels, Manly Sea Eagles, NZ Warriors.
