Prince William was far less animated when he sat through a French choir’s performance of the song he was filmed dad dancing to during his recent holiday to an upmarket Swiss ski resort.

The heir to the throne was caught on camera letting his hair down in Verbier as he danced awkwardly and busted out some seriously old-skool moves to Pharrell Williams' song Happy.

But the dance moves were nowhere to be seen when a children's choir performed a rendition of the track at a dinner hosted by Her Majesty's Ambassador to France at the British Embassy in Paris on Friday as part of their two-day visit to the country.

The royal kept a neutral expression as the choir sang the 2013 hit, but a broad smile was clearly visible as he applauded them at the end.

The royal couple's trip is the first in a series of European visits the Cambridges and the Prince of Wales will make in the coming months, seen by some commentators as a bid to enhance Britain's relationships with the Continent as Brexit negotiations loom.

Paris is also where William's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, was killed in a car crash and the trip comes as the Duke prepares to mark the 20th anniversary of her death in August this year.

Kate disappointed fashion watchers by arriving in the French capital in the same Catherine Walker coat she wore earlier in the day to an Irish Guards event in London celebrating St Patrick's Day.
