Wellington Hospital new pipes leaking

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 18/04/2016

Some of Wellington Hospital's plumbing has to be replaced, just seven years after the nearly $350 million building was built.

The Capital and Coast District Health Board has confirmed the hospital's pipes are full of pinhole leaks and need to be fixed.

The cause of the leaks was still being investigated and the hospital is considering what course of action to take, says chief executive Debbie Chin says.

The repairs would cause disruption to staff, but wouldn't affect services, Mrs Chin said.

"The care and services our patients receive is not affected by this issue," she said.

The DHB declined to comment on the cost of replacement or the time frame.

Comment has been sought from Fletcher Building, which was the main contractor for the $346m build that finished in 2008.
