Basin Reserve ground staff battling strong winds have provided the most hair-raising moments of the first day of the New Zealand-Bangladesh cricket Test.

The billowing big cover threatened to take staff away with it on Thursday as gale winds battered the capital.

Play did resume at 5.43pm, with Bangladesh on 119-2, after only 29 overs were possible in the first two session.
