Leading New Zealand freeskier Jossi Wells has finished fourth in his first hit-out of the international season in Colorado.

Wells was most impressive in the rail section of the Dew Tour extreme skiing event in Breckenridge on Sunday, notching the second best rails (jib) score to atone for a slow start to the slopestyle division.

A new format split the competition into the jump and jib sections.

Winter Olympian Wells was 11th after snowy conditions reduced the jump section to just one attempt each.

Sweden's Henrik Harlaut built on his jump lead to win with a total score of 162.65 with Wells on 151.66 points.
