MELBOURNE, Australia — The Western Bulldogs ended Hawthorn's quest for four straight Australian Football League titles with a 23-point win before 87,823 spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

The Bulldogs kicked 10 goals to five in the second half to win 16.11 (107) to 12.12 (84) to prevent Hawthorn from becoming the first team since Collingwood (1927-1930) to win four titles in a row.

The Bulldogs will attempt to stay on track to win their first title since 1954 — and second overall — when they play Great Western Sydney next Saturday. The winner of that match advances to the grand final on Oct. 1 at the MCG.

On Saturday, Sydney hosts Adelaide with the winner advancing to a preliminary final against Geelong on Sept. 23.
