Wet roads may be to blame for Tirau smash

Wet conditions after long periods of dry weather will be investigated as the possible cause of a crash that killed one north of Tirau.

Esther Grace-Lynn Cheval Bhana, 33, died at the scene of the two-vehicle smash on Sunday afternoon.

Her two passengers were taken to Tokoroa Hospital with moderate injuries.

Police believe the Auckland woman's car crossed the centre line and struck a northbound vehicle.

The driver of that car was not injured.

"This is a timely reminder for motorists to ensure they are driving to the conditions, especially when roads are wet after long periods of dry hot weather," police said.
