PROVISIONS IN THE END OF LIFE CHOICE BILL THAT'S GOING TO BE DEBATED BY PARLIAMENT

* It applies to New Zealand citizens and residents aged over 18

* It states that a person can ask for assisted dying if they have a terminal condition or a condition in an advanced state of decline that's causing intolerable pain

* Two doctors would have to decide those conditions existed

* Two doctors would have to judge that the person was of sound mind and understood the consequences of the decision they were making

* If one of the two doctors wasn't satisfied, there would be a referral to a psychiatrist

* These processes could be carefully recorded and then reported to a new agency within the Ministry of Health

* The ministry would report to parliament.
