WHERE'S THE EDUCATION MONEY GOING?

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

* $397m to meet the growing demand for early childhood education and provide places for an extra 14,000 children

NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS

* $883m for new school property - 480 new classrooms, nine new schools, two school expansions, relocation and rebuilding of three schools and a kura

TARGETING AT-RISK STUDENTS

* $43m for schools to target students most at risk of under-achieving - this is instead of an across-the-board increase in operational grants. The increase will be targeted at schools, regardless of decile, based on how many materially disadvantaged students are on their rolls

* $42m for students with high and special educational needs

CHARTER SCHOOLS

* Contingency funding for about seven new charter schools to open in 2018 and 2019
