Pace bowler Holly Huddleston claimed career-best figures to help the White Ferns to an emphatic nine-wicket one-day win over South Africa.

Beaten by four wickets in the second ODI, the White Ferns bounced back in Kimberley as Huddleston claimed 5-25 to restrict the hosts to 188-9 with Dane van Niekerk offering the only resistance with an unbeaten 78.

The South Africa-born 29-year-old said the immediate team focus had been on building pressure.

"I really wasn't trying to get many wickets, if I'm completely honest - we just wanted to start tying them up and see if we could create a bit of pressure," she said.

"South Africa came out looking to really take it to us, but we were lucky enough to get a couple of quick wickets."

In reply, skipper Suzie Bates (82no) and Amy Satterthwaite (89no) combined in an 174-run stand for the second wicket as the tourists romped home in the 34th over.

The win moves New Zealand into third place on the ICC's Women's Championship table, equal on points with second-placed West Indies but behind on net run rate.

The final standings will be decided in the next round, when New Zealand hosts Pakistan next month.

Overall honours for the South Africa series remain alive, with four further ODIs scheduled. The next match is at Paarl's Boland Park late on Monday (NZT).
