White Ferns lose Green for series

New Zealand coach Haidee Tiffen is hoping bad luck stops at three after losing Auckland batter Maddy Green to a season-ending thumb injury.

Tiffen has had to revamp her squad for the Rose Bowl one-day international series starting against Australia in Auckland on Sunday, making offspinning allrounder Anna Peterson a permanent selection.

Peterson joined the White Ferns for the just-completed Twenty20 series in Australia, which they won 2-1, after allrounder Sophie Devine suffered a dislocated thumb.

That followed the sidelining of a third player with a hand injury, spinner Leigh Kasperek (broken finger).

Green suffered her blow when taking a catch during New Zealand's 47-run win in the third and decisive T20 in Adelaide on Wednesday.

It is expected Green will recover in time to be available for the selection of a White Ferns women's World Cup squad, named after camp in mid-April.

The three-match ODI series begins at Eden Park Outer Oval followed by two games next week in Mount Maunganui.

White Ferns: Suzie Bates (capt), Erin Bermingham, Sam Curtis, Holly Huddleston, Amelia Kerr, Katey Martin, Thamsyn Newton, Katie Perkins, Liz Perry, Anna Peterson, Rachel Priest, Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu.
