White Ferns seal South Africa series win

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 4 days ago

The White Ferns have roared to an unassailable 4-1 lead over South Africa following an emphatic 95-run win in Paarl.

Legspinner Erin Bermingham and captain Suzie Bates took three wickets each as the home side capitulated for 113 in the 36th over in response to New Zealand's 208-8.

Bermingham was the standout performer in game five of the seven-match series, removing three of the South African top six.

That included top-scorer Mignon de Preez (62), one of four players caught by wicketkeeper Rachel Priest, keen to make up for a golden duck in the first over of the match.

Fellow-opener Natalie Dodd scored a patient 52 to help New Zealand recover from 10-3. She put on 84 for the fourth wicket with the in-form Amy Satterthwaite (42) before Sam Curtis (42 not out) provided some valuable late runs.

The two remaining games are also at Boland Park, on Saturday and Monday.
