Veterans Kayla Whitelock and Shea McAleese have taken home the supreme honours from the Hockey New Zealand awards.

It is a farewell present for former Black Sticks captain Kayla Whitelock, whose accomplished career finished with retirement after the fourth-placed finish at the Rio Olympics.

Experienced playmaker Whitelock was also named women's player's player of the year, voted on by other squad members.

Midfielder/defender McAleese snared the main men's prize while the player's player gong went to Blair Tarrant.
