Wigan's Nuuausala cops rugby league ban

Former NRL forward Frank-Paul Nuuausala has been given a one-match ban which rules him out of Wigan's Challenge Cup semi-final against Hull FC.

Nuuausala, who was playing only his second game for his new club after joining from Canberra, denied the charge when he appeared before an RFL disciplinary tribunal in Leeds on Tuesday evening but was found guilty.

The suspension rubs Nuuausala out of the clash with Hull FC at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium on Friday (Saturday AEST), although it would be no surprise if Wigan opted to contest the verdict.

Any appeal would be heard by a separate panel on Wednesday (Thursday AEST).

The former New Zealand international was sin-binned for punching Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook during the Warriors' 23-4 home Super League defeat by St Helens last Friday and subsequently charged by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel with a grade A offence.

Nuuausala, who won a premiership at the Sydney Roosters in 2013, was also fined STG300 ($A525)
