Wilkinson charges up leaderboard

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 21/05/2016

Kiwi golfer Tim Wilkinson has fired a flawless third-round 63 to rocket up the leaderboard into a share of seventh place at the PGA Tour event in Texas.

Wilkinson began the day at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving on a two-round total of 136, four under the card in 39th place and eight shots astray over overnight leader Ben Crane (US).

The 37-year-old Manawatu left-hander collected three birdies from his start on the back nine, adding four more on the run home on the back of some deadly accurate long-range putting.

Wilkinson trails US leader Brooks Koepka, who carded a third-round 65, by five shots and is three strokes behind second-placed world No.2 and US Open champion Jordan Spieth (US).

He shares seventh place with three others, and is two strokes ahead of fellow Kiwi Danny Lee.

Lee, who held a share of the lead after his opening 63, is in a tie for 13th place with nine others after firing back-to-back rounds of 69.
