Kiwi golfer Tim Wilkinson has fired a final-round 69 to finish in a share of 36th place at the PGA Tour event in Hawaii.

Three rounds of 67 had left him tied for 28th going into the final round at the Sony Open in Honalulu.

The 38-year-old New Zealander mixed four bogeys with three birdies for a one-under final round to end 17 strokes behind runaway leader Justin Thomas of the US.

Thomas, who opened with a spectacular 11-under 59 at Waialae, closed with a five-under 65 to finish seven strokes clear of second-placed Justin Rose (England).

Wilkinson's fellow Kiwi, Steve Alker, failed to make the cut in Hawaii after shooting an even par 140.
