Kiwi Tim Wilkinson is making a charge at the team-based PGA Tour event in New Orleans, having climbed to a share of eighth place.

Wilkinson and American playing partner Michael Thompson combined to shoot a four-under 68 at the Zurich Classic to be 11-under overall and eight shots off the pace.

Playing under a foursome (alternate shot) format, the pair climbed 24 places on Saturday courtesy of a round which featured five birdies and a solitary bogey on the 17th hole.

The leaders are Australian Cameron Smith and Sweden's Jonas Blixt on 19-under after also carding 68 on Saturday.

New Zealand's Danny Lee and Swedish partner David Lingmerth are 15th, one stroke behind the Wilkinson pairing.

A third Kiwi, Steve Alker, missed the third-round cut by a shot after finishing on six-under alongside Ireland's Seamus Power.
