Wilkinson has fired three rounds of three-under 67 to join nine others on 201 at the Sony Open in Honalulu.

However, the 38-year-old New Zealander looked scratchy in opening the third day with a seesawing effort on the back nine which included three birdies, a bogey and a double bogey.

He settled to close his round with three birdies on the front nine, and sits 13 shots behind runaway leader Justin Thomas of the US.

Thomas, who opened with a spectacular 11-under 59 at Waialae, posted a third-round 65 to back up his second-round 64, and holds a seven-stroke lead over compatriot Zach Johnson.
