Williams backs Daly to secure Lions spot

England's Elliot Daly should be handed his British and Irish Lions debut for the tour of New Zealand, according to veteran wing Shane Williams.

Daly, the 24-year-old back, has become a key figure for Eddie Jones' side during the Six Nations, and scored the match-winning try in Wales last Saturday.

Williams believes Daly's impressive performances in England's opening game against France - during which he also converted a long-range penalty - and the victory in Cardiff should make him a shoo-in for Warren Gatland's starting line-up this summer.

"There is a lot of time between now and the Lions tour, but you have to go by form and at the current time Daly is playing exceptionally well for England," said Williams, Wales' record try scorer who also made four Lions Test appearances.

"Daly is playing with form, confidence and in a very good England side. If I had to pick a back three it would be Stuart Hogg at 15, Liam Williams and Daly on current form."

Daly scored in the closing minutes at the Principality Stadium as England secured a 21-16 victory over their rivals.
