Sonny Bill Williams' return to the All Blacks is coming from the bench against the Springboks in Wellington on Saturday.

Williams hasn't played since the French series June because of a shoulder injury and has also overcome sickness this week to be named.

It's part of wide-spread changes amongst the backs this week.

Ryan Crotty and Anton Lienert Brown will be re-unite in the midfield, with Ngani Laumape injured and Jack Goodhue getting the weekend off.

Crotty and Lienert-Brown have worked well together in the past but the latter has been preferred recently as an impact player.

Lienert-Brown looked dangerous against Argentina, so will cherish getting a start.

Jordie Barrett's return is the other feature of this side.

He'll start at fullback, with Ben Smith moving to the right wing and Rieko Ioane back on the left.

Ioane was always going to take back the 11 jersey once fit but there is no room for Waisake Naholo or Nehe Milner-Skudder.

With a Boks pack fired up by coach Rassie Erasmus, who says his job is on the line, the All Blacks have picked the best available pack.

That features the return of Sam Cane and Liam Squire, while Scott Barrett is at lock for the injured Brodie Retallick.

Patrick Tuipulotu is the reserve lock, while hooker Liam Coltman will get his third test off the bench.
