Two-time Olympic 1500m medallist Nick Willis is confirming his intention to continue his career, setting a goal of contesting the 5000m at Tokyo.

"Committing to another 4 year Olympic campaign. Likely 1500m in 2017, 1500/5000 in '18, then focus on the 5000m for Tokyo," Willis posted on Twitter from his US base.

Willis won silver in Beijing eight years ago, was the oldest runner to make the final of the 1500m in London where he placed ninth and snared a bronze at the age of 33 in Rio.

At the Tokyo Olympics he'll be 37 years old.

He has decided to take the rest of the current athletics season off to spend more time with his family.
