Murder-accused Quinton Winders © Mediaworks Murder-accused Quinton Winders The man found guilty of the murder of road worker George Taiaroa is about to learn what sentence he will serve.

Quinton Winders is due back in the High Court of Rotorua on Friday, three months after a jury returned its verdict at the end of five-week trial.

Winders had denied murdering Mr Taiaroa, who was shot while operating a stop-go sign near Atiamuri, south of Tokoroa, on March 19, 2013.

The crown alleged the shooting was revenge, with Winders blaming Mr Taiaroa for a minor crash at the work site earlier.

But the defence argued that Winders had no motive to kill Mr Taiaroa and the case was one of mistaken identity.
