Wine Act to be reviewed

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 6/06/2017

Legislation covering the wine industry is to be reviewed because it's more than a decade old and needs "some tweaks" to get it up to date, the government says.

Food Safety Minister David Bennett says the aim is to make the Wine Act 2003 better serve the $1.6 billion export industry.

"Key requirements in the current export framework are over a decade old and some parts of the industry have evolved significantly over that period," he said.

"It's time to look at how we can rework part of the legislation to be effective in the 2017 economy."

Mr Bennett says he's gathering information and wants feedback on what is felt to be imperative.
