French Open doubles champion Michael Venus has had his eight-match winning streak brought to an end at the ATP tournament in the Netherlands.

Venus and Brazilian partner Andre Sa lost to top seeds Lukasz Kubot of Poland and Marcelo Melo (Brazil) 7-6(5) 4-6 5-10 in one hour and 26 minutes at s-Hertogenbosch.

The semi-final defeat is the first time Venus has been beaten since he combined with American Ryan Harrison to win the French Open doubles title last week.

Venus has climbed to 15th in the world doubles rankings following his triumph at Roland Garros, and is keen to improve further when he reunites with Harrison at Wimbledon in July.
