The sentencing of a man convicted of shooting dead two Ashburton Work and Income workers has been delayed.

Russell John Tully ,49, was set to learn his punishment on Friday after being found guilty of murdering Peggy Turuhira Noble, 67, and Susan Leigh Cleveland, 55, on September 1, 2014.

But in a decision issued on Monday afternoon, the court said Tully's sentencing had been vacated and a new date would be issued "in due course".

No reason was given for the delay.
