Police are working to piece together the movements of a sexual assault victim, attacked after the Selwyn Sounds concert in Christchurch.

Investigators are working to track down people who assisted the victim on Saturday, between 6.30pm and 7.10pm.

"Firstly, there is a middle-aged woman who helped the victim on the corner of North Belt and James Street outside the Lincoln Primary School, opposite the church," Detective Senior sergeant Scott Anderson said on Friday.

That woman stayed with the victim until she was collected by a family member.

A man in a cowboy hat and a woman, described as having pink and blonde hair, on the sports fields outside the concert, are also urged to contact police.
