Witnesses sought to attack in PN

A man brandishing a screwdriver has threatened a man sitting in a car in Palmerston North.

The assault happened in the car park at the end of Riverside Drive about 4pm on Thursday, police say.

The victim managed to stop an attack from progressing, receiving minor injuries when he defended himself.

The offender fled in a white vehicle driven by a woman.

Police have released descriptions of a number of people they believe were in the area at that time and they would like to speak to them. They were not involved in the attack.

* A man on a red road bike, wearing a yellow-coloured helmet, a yellow top and black cycle pants.

* A cyclist on a black mountain bike wearing a long-sleeve brown-coloured top and black cycle pants.

* The driver of a dark blue Subaru RX or WRX who parked in the car park at the time with a black dog.
