England got off to a fast start after Chris Woakes took a career-best 6-70 and dismissed Pakistan for 339 Friday on the second day of the first cricket Test at Lord's.

England lost a wicket early in their innings, with Alex Hales dismissed for six, caught by Azhar Ali off the bowling of Rahat Ali.

Alastair Cook was dropped on 22 in fast bowler Mohammad Amir's fourth over as the England captain carried his team to 1-64 at lunch.

Cook will resume on 35 with Joe Root unbeaten on 23.

Earlier, resuming at 6-282, Pakistan lost their last four wickets for 29 runs. Sarfraz Ahmed made 25 off 29 balls before Woakes struck twice in one over by removing Ahmed and Wahab Riaz at 310.

Misbah-ul-Haq could add only four to his overnight 110 before Stuart Broad (3-71) wrapped up the innings by clean bowling the Pakistan captain and then having Amir caught in the slips.
