Wolfsburg dominate in Bundesliga draw

Wolfsburg have drawn 0-0 with Mainz in Germany's Bundesliga, perhaps putting coach Dieter Hecking under some pressure to keep his job.

Wolfsburg did everything but score in their home 0-0 draw with Mainz on Sunday, leaving coach Dieter Hecking in an awkward position heading into the international break.

Pressure has been mounting on Hecking after a poor 2015/16 season and an underwhelming start to this campaign, with the side now 13th in the Bundesliga with six points. They were runners-up the season before last.

Performance-wise Hecking will feel he has done enough to keep his job but with two weeks before their next game, Wolfsburg's hierarchy have a lot to think about.

Ricardo Rodriguez had a free kick saved by Jonas Loessl, Jakub Blaszczykowski had an effort pushed onto the bar and Julian Draxler saw a shot cleared off the line by Giulio Donati.

Wolfsburg striker Mario Gomez endured another frustrating day, having a few half chances but again failing to open his account for his new club.

Mainz, in 11th, threatened only sporadically and will be glad to leave with a draw.

Bottom side Schalke go in search of their first points of the season in the Sunday late game at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach.

In Saturday action, leaders Bayern Munich dropped points for the first time in the league this term after a 1-1 home draw with Cologne but rivals Borussia Dortmund failed to take advantage and lost 2-0 at Bayer Leverkusen.
