A woman accused of murdering her husband in Hamilton over the weekend has been further remanded in custody after appearing in the city's district court on Monday afternoon.

The 61 year old was granted interim name suppression and entered no plea to the charge after she was arrested on Saturday night.

She sat passively in the dock during the hearing and almost fell asleep while her case was being deliberated.

A large number of her family who were present shouted words of encouragement like: "Love you Mum'', and ''Kia Kaha (be strong)."

The name of the 55 year old victim, whose body was discovered in the Te Aroha Street flat by police, has yet to be released.

Judge Noel Cocurullo has ordered the woman to undergo a psychiatric report before her next appearance at the Hamilton High Court on March 21.

However her lawyer Kerry Burroughs has indicated he will seek bail for his client before that date at a separate hearing.
