Woman charged over tourist's death

A woman has been charged over an incident in which an American tourist was hit by a bus reversing in a car park near Queenstown in April and later died.

The woman, 62, has been charged with careless operation of a vehicle causing death, police said on Monday.

She would appear in Queenstown District Court on September 19.

The incident happened on April 15 when 73-year-old Richard Philip Hyde, from Massachusetts, was hit while visiting Mt Nicholas Station.

Mr Hyde was treated at the scene and airlifted to Queenstown Hospital, where he died.
